Andy Kirkpatrick is
one of Britain's best all-round climbers. Arguably the
funniest climbing lecturer in the UK, Andy mixes
side-splitting comedy with scary tales of daring in the most
extreme situations. Gasp with horror as Andy recollects his
solo accent of Reticent Wall in Yosemite (or gasp with
disbelief with the amount of water he took with him...). In
2002 Andy's climb on the Dru became on of the hardest lines on
the mountain, taking 15 days to complete. This was committed
to film in Andy's film Cold Haul. For 2007, Andy has a new
lecture... over to the man himself to explain:
"After selling out the Buxton
Opera house last year, and doing 14 sell out gigs with picture
house cinemas this summer (well apart from Brixton…but that’s
because someone got shot in MacDonald’s across the road the
day before!), I've been pestered to get my act together and
take my show to a wider audience.
WHAT'S THE SHOW ABOUT?
First off the show isn't just
for climbers, being more like 'Touching the Void' meets
'Extras' with a bit of Peter Kay thrown in (you'll just have
to trust me on this). The show is a mix of strange stories
from my life, both about some very hard and dangerous climbs,
and other weird things that I've done; such as dangling the
guy who plays Chris Finch in the Office, over a cliff, or
making sure Johnny Depp didn't drown in a river of chocolate,
in Charlie and the Chocolate factory.
For people who've seen my
other shows ('When Hell Freezes Over') there's plenty of new
stories, including my crossing of Greenland this year with the
amazing Karen Darke and climbing with Simon Yates (the man
with the knife in touching the Void!).
The show is very dark, and
very funny, and it's had great reviews in the US and Canada."
